If you were to lose all of your data, what would it cost you? For most users, the cost to replace that data would go into the thousands of dollars. What if you have multiple computers and you lost all the data on each of them? Now the cost goes even higher. That’s why it is extremely important to have a backup strategy in place for each of your computers.
Four years ago, we invested in a Netgear ReadyNAS drive and it has served Graphics Unleashed well. We have four drives in our unit to give us large capacity as well redundancy in case a drive fails. Each of our computers can save and/or backup to the ReadyNAS. It is certainly a very important piece of computer equipment to us.
If you don’t have a truly reliable backup plan, make sure to check out the Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 4 Plus. The base device sells for less than $600 and has slots for four drives. You’ll have to buy the drives separately. It can run on as few as two drives, but you get the safest and largest configuration with four drives. Given that 1 TB drives sell for under $100, it wouldn’t cost much more to fill up the ReadyNAS.
Look carefully at the product page as it describes the many things you can do with the drive. It can do automatic backups. You can define which computers/users can see which areas of the drive. It can stream media for you and much more. As a network device, it can take a little bit of time to get it set up for each of your users. Once it is set up, you may forget it is there. We’ve had our for four years and it really has made things easy for us to secure our data.
