I met with a client last week who had purchased a new laptop. The old laptop only had USB 2.0 ports while the new one had USB 3.0 ports. We were using USB 3.0 flash drives. This meant it took a lot longer to copy data only the flash drive from the old computer than it took to copy the data onto the new laptop.
What this showed is that if you have USB 3.0 ports, a USB 3.0 flash drive can really go pretty darned fast. For those who haven’t gotten a flash drive in the last year or two, you likely have the slower USB 2.0 flavor. Even if you bought one recently, you may have gotten the slower version.
I’ve included an Amazon link for the Sandisk 64 GB USB 3.0 flash drive below. I do earn a small commission if you use my link to purchase.
If you are backing up to a flash drive, get a handful of these so you can rotate them and even keep at least one outside of your office. While it is a small investment, the time saved will add up very quickly.
