Konfabulator is Fabulous!

February 24, 2005

Recently I wrote about Desktop Sidebar. No doubt it is cool and useful. I wasn’t really going on a hunt to find cool utilities, but I’ve found something that really blew me away. It is called Konfabulator and it allows you to put widgets on your desktop. What exactly is a widget you ask? There are so many that do a wide variety of things that it is hard to give it an exact definition. One example is a stock ticker, another is a clock and of course there is a calendar. The weather widget is downright pretty, except I’m totally sick of seeing the rain icon for my home in the desert. Do you order things often and wonder the shipping status? Great, there is a shipping widget that works with all major carriers to track your packages….live. Need to translate between two languages? There is a translator widget. Want to monitor the temperature of your TiVo? Yes, there is even a widget for that. Some are incredibly useful while others are a bit silly. Download the ones you want, customize them to your liking and enjoy the information they bring. The download of Konfabulator is free, but it is shareware and you should send $24.95 if you are going to continue using it.
