Flash Drive Took a Licking and Kept on Ticking

March 23, 2007

Last night I was getting some laundry out of the dryer and I stopped in my tracks when I saw that I had washed and dried my USB data key. I had copies of all the data, but wasn’t too thrilled that I had ruined a key that was only a couple of months old.

Before I gave up on the key, I figured that I would at least stick it in the computer to see if it worked. To my amazement, it was in perfect working order and all of the data was intact. That just tells me that this is one tough drive. Best of all, the price isn’t so bad either.

It is called the Corsair Flash Voyager USB 2.0 and comes in a variety of data sizes: 16 GB, 8 GB, 4 GB, 2 GB, 1 GB, and 512 MB. It is priced low enough that you just can’t afford not to have at least one.

Hey Foster – as one who works for a company that makes Flash memories there isn’t much in that puppy that can be ruined in the wash/dry enviorment. The Flash memory non-operational temp range is 0-180 degrees (F). Usually the only victim of laundry day is any marking on the case.
