Weekend Widget: Camtasia Studio 6

November 15, 2008

One of the most important tools in my toolbox has just been upgraded. Camtasia Studio 6 brings some really cool new features to this powerhouse of screen recording. The new version brings the ability to more easily create high-quality video and it can do this with smaller file sizes. Other cool new features include the ability to edit audio and video separately as well as the ability to tilt the screen. From a productivity standpoint, a number of new shortcut keys were added that promise to save you a lot of time.

Some of you may not be aware of what screen recording software can do for you? For me, it is an essential training tool. I can record my usage of CorelDRAW while I describe what is being done. These videos are then interlinked with the PDF I’ve created to create a multimedia training disc. For an example, check out my CorelDRAW X4 Unleashed book. It contains eleven and a half hours of video created with Camtasia Studio 5 and the Bonus Content Edition adds three more hours of video.

For those who also want to do static screen captures, you can get Camtasia Studio 6 bundled with SnagIt 9. If you want to give it a try first, a trial version is available. If you are doing training on a computer, you can’t go wrong with Camtasia Studio.
