Windows 7’s Amazing GodMode Folder

March 25, 2010

To the best of my knowledge, today’s tip will only work in Windows 7. So those of you who have yet to upgrade will have something to look forward to when you do upgrade.

Open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) by pressing the Windows key + E. Click the New folder button. It will be given the name of “New folder”. Change the name to exactly what is written below:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Once you’ve done that, the folder will change to a shortcut to a special kind of Control Panel. Double click on the folder/shortcut and you’ll have access to hundreds of settings for all aspects of Windows. This “folder” will allow you to change most anything you want. I think this is one of the coolest Windows tips I’ve ever seen.

    Definitely do not try this with Vista. I thought “Why not see what happens?” What happened was I could not access my C drive. After a lot of bumbling around, finally pulled up a command prompt where I could do an old dos dir command on the C drive and removed the folder with the dos rd command.

    Wally,

    I’m sorry you had problems with it, but I specifically said it was for Windows 7. I followed the instructions myself on Windows 7 and it worked great.

    I’m certainly not blaming you. It was entirely my fault. It made an interesting afternoon, however.
