Last September I outlined all of the components I selected for my Dream Computer. As the computer industry is constantly changing, I thought it was time to look at some of the components to see if there was something better available. I’ll start today by looking at the hard drive I selected and what I might select if I were to build another computer today.
For my computer, I selected the Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5 TB 32 MB Cache drive and it has served me very well. Even better, that drive is now selling for under $100. That is an amazing value for a fast drive with a huge capacity. If I were buying again today, I’d give the Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB a long look. It does cost twice as much and only adds another 500 GB. It doubles the size of the cache which can improve the performance. At this point I don’t think I need the extra capacity so I’d still go with the Seagate Barracuda drive because of the amazing price. Whichever drive you choose, I don’t think you can go wrong.
