What Can Your Automate?

December 27, 2010

As the end of the year gets closer, I try to find ways to make my work easier in the upcoming year. One of the things I try to decide is whether there is a way to automate tasks I do on a regular basis. Think of the things you do regularly in CorelDRAW or Corel PHOTO-PAINT. Are there processes that are the same steps every single time? If so, you can record a macro in either program to automate those tasks. You may also wish there was a way to do something and you’ll cross your fingers that Corel will add the feature in a future version. Macro developers think the same thing except they may have already created a macro with that exact feature. Some user get upset and refuse to pay a small amount to get the feature today in hopes that Corel will add it down the road. While they are waiting, their competition gets that macro and gets to use the feature today.

So make the list of tasks you want to automate or features you wish you had. For the simple things, record your own macros. For the more complicated features, check the previous Macro Monday posts and you might find that the feature already exists. Before you know it, you’ll be getting more work done in a lot less time!
