ColorSchemer ColorPix

June 25, 2011

Getting the right color is a task that most designers face many times in any given day. One of my favorite features added in CorelDRAW X5 are the numerous eyedroppers that are found in dialogs where colors need to be selected. Of course there are times you are going to need colors in other applications and that’s where ColorSchemer ColorPix can come in handy.

You’ll see a screen shot of this handy utility at right. By default, it is only half this size. I’ve expanded the magnifier that shows a view of the pixels near your cursor. In this case, I’ve magnified those pixels 400%. You’ll see a small crosshair where my cursor was located. The top half of the dialog shows the color values of the pixels under the crosshair. All you need to do is press a key on your keyboard to lock those values. This is definitely a handy utility to have in your toolbox and it won’t cost you a thing!
