Two days ago there was an announcement that Gerber Scientific had signed a definitive merger agreement with Vector Capital. You can read the announcement if you want all the financial details. I found it interesting news because of the two companies involved. I’ll include a couple of quotes from the release about the two companies.
Gerber Scientific, Inc. (http://www.gerberscientific.com) is a leading international supplier of sophisticated automated manufacturing systems for the sign making, specialty graphics, packaging, apparel and industrial industries.
Among Vector’s notable investments are Aladdin Knowledge Systems, Certara, Corel, LANDesk, Precise Software, Printronix, RAE Systems, Register.com, SafeNet, Savi Technology, Trafficmaster, WatchGuard Technologies, and WinZip.
Look carefully and you’ll see that Vector already owns Corel and WinZip among other companies. Gerber makes equipment used in a number of the industries where graphics are important. With that said, don’t read anything more into it than Vector buying Gerber. It just caught my eye because both are companies that I know as being involved in the graphics industry. We’ll just have to watch and see what happens next.
