ASUS P8Z68-V Pro Motherboard

July 6, 2011

When you put together your own computer, one of the first decisions you need to make is the motherboard into which all of the components connect. The motherboard you choose can determine the processor, the speed of your hard drives and much more.

While I could dig around and find a bargain motherboard, I wanted to tell you about one that is a high-end board with a reasonable price. It comes with a lot of bang and sells for just over $200.

The feature list on the ASUS P8Z68-V Pro motherboard is a long one so I’m going to focus one of the features that could be of great interest. It is called Smart Response Technology (SRT) and it can make a hard drive up to four times faster. It does this by using a small SSD (solid state drive) to boost the speed of the mechanical drive. If you’ve looked at SSD drives, they can be very expensive. With SRT, you’d buy a smaller one (meaning much less expensive) and pair it with a large mechanical drive. You get much of the speed benefits of the SSD drive without the huge cost. Heck, that savings could easily cover the cost of this motherboard!
