Macro authors must be working on some really cool projects as there haven’t been as many new releases recently. Since there aren’t any new macros to write about, I’m going to deviate a bit today and talk about scanning software. When you buy a scanner, it typically comes with software for scanning images. Most of the time you get what is called a TWAIN driver that allows you to scan directly into software that supports acquiring. It is designed for just one type of scanner and it may never be updated as new operating systems come onto the scene.
VueScan is software that replaces the software that came with you scanner. There are versions for all popular operating systems, in both 32-bit and 64-bit variations. So if your scanner doesn’t come with a 64-bit driver, VueScan can provide that for you. No, it isn’t free. With the Standard Edition at $39.95 and the Professional Edition at $79.95, it provides a great solution for a fair price. It is certainly less expensive than buying a new scanner which may or may not be supported in the near future.
