Design Base Automation Plug-In for CorelDRAW X3-X5

December 31, 2011

design-baseAs I talk to designers, it seems like the Holy Grail is a tool that will just do what you want in one click. I’m not sure that it will ever be that easy, but Design Base Automation Plug-in for CorelDRAW X3-X5 certainly makes things a lot easier.

When you launch it, you get a dialog box similar to the one shown at right. From the dialog you can access art packs, clipart, flyers, comps, templates, outlines and envelopes for text and much more. I’m sure some of you are getting excited, but you’re worried about how much this thing is going to cost. Guess what, it’s free! That’s right, you can download the plug-in for free.

Now you may wonder why anyone would give this away and I’ll be happy to tell you. The folks who created it would love to sell you artwork to use with Design Base. In fact, you’ll see that the first Art Pack is already available for sale and it contains some great stuff. I’ll talk more about it tomorrow. You’ll also find some free artwork is also available for download. Go ahead and get your free copy of Design Base and give it a try. I think you’ll love it!

Clicking on the Free download it indicated it was $50.00 but the next step shows a counterbalancing $50.00 gift certificate.

It then sent a link but this link takes one to a page where a screen pops up for sharing – I tried sharing via email but it refuses to allow the actual product to download – very annoying
    – re-reading the 1st email it appears the 2nd link is just an explanation and not an actual download – evidently one has to wait for the free order to be processed and yet another link be sent so as to download the product.

That doesn’t sound even remotely right. The product is free. There is no $50 with an offsetting gift certificate. What it sounds like you are doing is using the social sharing on the graphic.

The Sharing overlay pops up and covers the download link, giving no option to download without sharing, I retrieved the direct link from the page source. Ken is correct.

In my opinion forced sharing of a product before having a chance to try it is not the way to go.

If you move outside of the graphic and try again, you won’t get the sharing link every time. We are looking for a way to make it less obtrusive but it is provided by an outside company. In short, there is no FORCED sharing involved.

not meaning to be a whiny-puss, just passing along some info: i purchased a product a year or so ago from Advanced T-Shirt- the site said it was CD15-ready—-it was not. when i contacted them by phone to try to get it to work, they blamed CorelDraw for changing their software—no attempts were made by them to try to make it right. When i contacted them 3 times to ask for a refund, my emails were never answered. buyer Beware.—-<Mr. Coburn, i hope this missive does not in any way communicate anything negative towards you and your efforts—you have been nothing but awesome in the CD community over the years. Hopefully, i just caught Advanced T-Shirt on a bad week.

John, sorry to hear about the previous issue. Unfortunately Corel does change things that can adversely affect third parties. We have had that problem with our Unleashed FX add-on. Corel made changes in X5 that made it so unreliable (and unstable) that we never released a version compatible with X5. In the case of Design Base, it is free so kind of hard to say “buyer beware” when there isn’t anything to “buy”. If users choose to buy the Art Packs, it is artwork and not software.

We certainly try to do our best to make customers happy. It can be extremely frustrating to us (and I’m sure to users) when Corel breaks something that we simply cannot fix. Those situations can certainly drive third parties like us (and others) nutty and I’m guessing you did just catch them on a bad week.

This is a plug-in from advanced t-shirt. You use to have to subscribe to this to get access to the design database but it has now been released as free plug-in but you do have to buy the design database to get all the goodies. I bought it about 2 months ago and it works great and does all it claims to do. Makes it easy to envelope items and text effects plus tons of clipart available. It is worth the price and I have had no problems with it or the suppliers. I use coreldraw x4 and x5 with no issues
