Ten Hot CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT Tips For The Holidays

December 22, 2011

Rather than giving you just a single tip today, I thought I would give you ten quick tips today as my gift to you for the holidays.

  1. There is no such thing as DPI for Web graphics. Enter whatever number you want for DPI, only the height and width in pixels matter.
  2. If you are asking for help, don’t simply describe a file as “large”. Give the exact file size and at least an overview of the contents of the file.
  3. Don’t change the Duplicate Offset to 0, use the + key on the Numeric Keypad instead as it always makes a duplicate with zero offset.
  4. Quit worrying about the settings for Auto-Backup. Just turn it off and press the Ctrl + S shortcut key to save your file each time your workflow is interrupted. You’ll be saving a lot more often. Make sure you have a solution for regularly backing up all data on your computer.
  5. When creating Web graphics, know the best format for each graphic. JPG is not the universal answer.
  6. Make sure you have installed all service packs as they may solve a problem you are having.
  7. Take advantage of Object Manager to see details of many objects at once.
  8. Don’t make the mistake of using incorrect characters like using inch marks instead of a true double quote. Along with that, memorize the shortcut keys for entering some of the special characters you use most often.
  9. Make sure you have optimized the vector objects in your graphics so they don’t have excess nodes. This can not only make the art look bad, it can create problems on output.
  10. You are never too old to learn and there is no better learning resource for CorelDRAW than the CorelDRAW X5 Unleashed Multimedia Training. If you don’t already have all three, now is the time to get this great resource.
