Canon CS5600F Color Image Scanner

June 20, 2012

I don’t know about you, but my need for scanning has dropped dramatically in the last few years. I’m guessing this closely coincides with the explosion of digital photography. With so many images captured digitally, there just isn’t as much need to scan them. Of course it hasn’t eliminated the need to scan entirely and it is still important for designers to have a good scanner available.

It is about time for me to get a new scanner as the lamp in the old one has started to fail. I’ve been very pleased with the Canon scanners I’ve had in the past and the Canon CS5600F Color Image Scanner looks to be an excellent replacement for the one I’ve got now. 4800 dpi is more than enough considering I don’t think I’ve ever scanned anything at higher than 1200 dpi. It has USB 2.0 for fast transfer of data to the computer and 48 bit depth for capturing the widest range of colors. Priced at around $109 at Amazon, it is certainly very affordable. While it supplies a TWAIN driver that works on 64-bit versions of Windows, it does not supply a TWAIN driver for use with 64-bit software. As described in CorelDRAW X6, 64-bits, Scanning, Twain Drivers and WIA, it can not be used directly with CorelDRAW X6 or Corel PHOTO-PAINT X6 until after Corel supplies a WIA control in Service Pack 1. It is disappointing that Canon and other manufactures have failed to deliver TWAIN drivers to be used with 64-bit software.

Facebook Chat Reminder: I just want to remind everyone that we will be holding a live chat on the Graphics Unleashed Facebook page at 3pm Pacific Daylight Time tomorrow (June 21, 2012). Several users have asked if the chat will be archived and it is all taking place on the Facebook page and all of the chat will be on the page for those who want to check it out later. I also want to clarify that this is not a teleconference of any kind and therefore there is no need to call in or even have sound on your computer.

I found this article whilst looking for other information on canon scanners however I have to say I always use canon scanners (particularly the DR series models) simply because I think their quality are the best and also they are super reliable!
