One of the programs we use most often is a Web browser. From looking at the visitor stats, I know that there are far too many of you still using Internet Explorer. While I’m sure some of you have chosen it purposely, I think many of you use it simply because it comes with Windows. If you haven’t tried a different browser, give it a try and I think you’ll find it far superior.
Let’s start with the absolute basics of Mozilla Firefox. It can be downloaded for free and takes only a couple of minutes to get installed. This makes it very easy to add as an alternative to Internet Explorer.
The biggest problem I’ve had with Firefox is that after running for a while it would take up a large amount of memory. Of course it didn’t help that I would leave it running for several days in a row without closing. One of the biggest goals of v15 of Firefox is a better way to release memory for things no longer in use. Over time you will see it leaking a little bit of memory, but far less than what was leaked in previous versions. Of course if you don’t run it for days at a time and browse a lot of pages, it will be even less of a problem. There is no better time than the present to get into a better browser!
“This makes it very easy to add as an alternative to Internet Explorer.”
…and soon you will find IE to be the alternative.
FireFox rules!
Agreed. I think all users should have at least two browsers installed. If they truly use alternatives to Internet Explorer for any length of time, they’ll soon find the alternative to be a better choice.
