Early this week I filmed some videos for CorelDRAW X6 Unleashed. Over the years I’ve spent hundreds of hours in front of a camera, but this was the first time the video was shot with a DSLR. One of the challenges with any video shoot is capturing the audio.
As we were getting all the equipment set up, I noticed the camera was equipped with a really cool adapter with XLR (microphone) inputs. For this shoot, we used a lavalier microphone plugged into the adapter. I was so curious about this cool adapter that I looked it up and found the BeachTek Passive Dual XLR Audio Adapter for DSLR Camcorders (pictured at right).
As you can see, it allows you to make adjustments to the audio and it sits just beneath the camera (most likely on a tripod). Should you be shooting an interview, it allows for two microphones to be used. This particular model does not include phantom power for condenser microphones. There is a separate adapter that does include a pre-amplifer with phantom power, the BeachTek Dual XLR Audio Adapter with Built-in Preamplifiers and Phantom Power for DSLR Cameras. If you are going to be filming with a DSLR, you’ll want to consider getting one of these adapters.
