End of Year Computer Security Assessment

December 22, 2012

Something often mentioned as a way to keep your computer secure is to make sure you install Windows Updates as soon as they are available. In general, this is a good policy. As we have seen, sometimes these updates cause a lot more problems than they solve. While it does increase your risk slightly, I don’t think it is much of an increased risk to wait a week after each batch of updates is released before installing them. Should something like the font fiasco occur, you are then spared the problems.

ZoneAlarm Exterme Security 2012It is also extremely important to have good tools in place to provide anti-virus, firewall, malware and other protections against the bad guys who want to harm your computer.

I hear talk of people who are constantly getting their computers infected. Maybe they are going to Web sites they should avoid, but I’m guessing they also don’t do a good job protecting their computers. In all the years I’ve been online, I’ve yet to run into a single problem with an infection.

Yes, that is an ad over there at right. Yes, I will earn a commission if you choose to buy something. No, I have not been asked to write about this product. I specifically mention ZoneAlarm and their security solutions because they work great for me. So if you find your current solution is still allowing infections, maybe you should try something different. My personal choice is their Internet Security Suite and I have been using it for at least six years (can’t remember when I first installed it). You’ll note the ad shows a box shot of the Extreme Security product which has more features than the Internet Security Suite.

Should you click on the ad, you’ll see a comparison chart with the features in each version of the ZoneAlarm suites. You can then decide which product provides the features you need. Buttons are on the page to download any of the products for a free trial and there are discounts offered if you are ready to buy. Regardless of which security solution you choose, just make sure you have something installed that is regularly updated to protect you. The peace of mind alone is worth the price you’ll pay!
