From time to time I hear from users who find transferring data from a DVD to their computer is painfully slow. While there can be a variety of reasons for the slow speed, the most common reason is the use of a painfully slow drive!
The good news is that you can get a really fast drive for a very small amount of money. I remember paying more than $500 for a first generation CD-ROM drive and more than $2000 for a CD burner. How much is a really fast DVD burner? Try around $22!
One of the best drives is the Samsung SH-222BB shown above right and it sells for $22 as mentioned earlier. If you are the least bit handy with a screwdriver (and you don’t have some crazy custom computer case), you can probably replace your slow drive with this one in 5-10 minutes. And if you aren’t going to replace your current drive, keep this one in mind for your next computer.
