I was having dinner with a friend recently and he recounted a problem he had with his phone running low on power. The simple answer was to buy a charging cable for his car, but he would soon be getting a new phone and didn’t want to buy something that could soon change.
Most phones and tablets these days using a cable that is USB on one end. This allows the device to sync with the computer, but also to be charged with the trickle of power going through the USB cable.
A few months ago, I did two posts addressing cables and devices that would solve this issue for you. Please read Don’t Forget to Buy Cables to Power the New Toys and Vehicle Adapters for Power Plugs and Music Broadcasting. Today I want to cover a few more devices for giving you a way to plug in those USB cables at home without using a computer.
If you just need a little adapter for getting USB juice from an AC outlet, the USB AC Power Adapter will do it for you and it costs less than $2 to your door! I have a couple similar plugs that came with my phones and have them conveniently located where I typically want to charge my phone or tablet. Not the most elegant solution, but they most definitely get the job done.
Want to convert a wall plate from two standard AC outlets to three while also adding two USB ports? The XTG slim wall plate (shown at left) does exactly that in a very slim form factor. This provides a very easy and elegant way to get USB ports where you need them without losing AC outlets.
For those who want to plug in a lot of devices, the Bestek USB Wall Charging Station (shown at right) gives you six AC outlets and four USB ports in a compact design. Depending on your needs at home or in the office, one of two of the wall plate options shown could be real lifesavers for you.
No matter what devices you choose, having an easy way to plug in your USB devices for charging. I don’t know about you, but the numbers of devices I own that charge via USB continues to grow over time and I just can’t seem to get enough outlets to charge them up. Just don’t be like my friend who was lacking ways to keep his phone charged. As it is the lifeline for his business, running out of juice was a real problem!
