OK, you read the title of the post and I’m sure you know your own e-mail address. So you are wondering why I would ask such a stupid question, right? While I’m sure most everyone knows their own e-mail address, it is often entered incorrectly on forms.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen someone enter an e-mail address ending in @aol.cmo. It is easy enough to guess they meant to type @aol.com. Similarly, it is common to get someone putting in @hoymail.com instead of @hotmail.com. It’s a typo and we all make them.
While those examples are easy enough to know are just common typos, it isn’t as easy if you mess up somewhere else in your e-mail address. It is not uncommon for someone to contact us after a few days wondering why they’ve heard nothing about an order they placed. Simple, they entered the wrong e-mail address. Many people are paranoid about entering a phone number fearing they will receive telemarketing calls (something we’ve never done in the 20 years we’ve been in business). Since the e-mail doesn’t work and there is no way to call, we have to wait for the person to contact us and often they are really upset by the time we are contacted.
There are other situations where your e-mail address is the “name” on your account. So if you type your e-mail incorrectly the very first time, you could be stuck with the wrong spelling forever. If not forever, it could be a hassle to get it changed.
In short, take an extra 5-10 seconds when asked to enter your e-mail address and make sure you enter it correctly! You could save yourself a lot of grief down the road.
