I’ve recently written about the GoPro Hero cameras and praised the many things they can do. Like any popular product, there are some really good competitors out there and today I want to talk about one of them.
Specifically, I’ll point out two cameras in the JVC Adixxion line. The first thing you’ll notice is that they have a lower price than the GoPro cameras. That doesn’t make them better cameras, simply less expensive.
The JVC cameras are waterproof to 5 meters without a case where the GoPro cameras require a housing for underwater shooting. But the housing does allow you to go deeper than five meters.
One thing that drives me crazy about many devices is the use of the microSD cards. They are tiny and that can be a good thing to keep the device small. Unfortunately they also require an SD adapter for pulling data off the cards. The JVC cameras use a true SD card. It also has two different tripod mounts (side and bottom) so you’ll find it easier to mount exactly how you desire.
While there are pros, there are also cons. Users report that the quality of the video is not quite as good. Is it a big enough difference that it makes a difference to most people? Probably not. The sound quality also isn’t as good if you are going to use the in-camera sound capture.
You will have to determine which of the cameras is a best fit for your needs. If nothing else, you’ll want to at least include the JVC Addixxion cameras in your comparisons.
