Sometimes I feel like a broken record as I’ve posted answers to questions on several occasions and yet I still get those same questions. Of course not everyone reads the blog every day. Today I’m going to go over a few of those common questions that I’ve received in the last few days.
Thumbnails for CorelDRAW Files
Frequently a user will write saying that they are not seeing thumbnails for CorelDRAW files. Typically this means something failed during the install of CorelDRAW or how CorelDRAW file associations are set in Windows. In CorelDRAW Thumbnails, MysticThumbs and ROMCat; I covered a variety of possible solutions. The first suggestion is how to make sure the thumbnail extension is properly installed as is the often the culprit. Many users overlook the power of MysticThumbs simply because they don’t want to buy anything. That’s sad as that is an extremely powerful extension to Windows that can help with CorelDRAW thumbnails as well as many other popular formats. Once I started using it, I don’t know how I could use a computer without it. Lastly, there is ROMCat which accesses thumbnails in files directly and doesn’t require the thumbnail extension provided by Corel to be functional.
Fonts That Work in CorelDRAW
Another user was asking for fonts that “work in CorelDRAW.” That may have been the case way back in the first couple of versions of CorelDRAW. If a font installs in Windows, it shows up in CorelDRAW. That means any TrueType, PostScript or OpenType font should work just fine. This user asked about a specific category of fonts and a search on Google will probably give hundreds of results, if not thousands. I covered a lot about finding and installing fonts in Downloading Fonts, Installing Fonts and Spam Filters. Yes, the spam filters part is just as important as we get an angry e-mail nearly every day saying that we never sent an e-mail to the person. The reality is that spam filters ate the e-mail. Please, please, please whitelist our e-mail addresses so this doesn’t happen! More information on this can be found in E-mail Facts and Fiction, Problems and Solutions. If you use a “freemail” service like Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail and others; you are more likely to have our mail filtered.
Websites to Recommend
During my seminar at the NBM Show in Los Angeles, I fielded a number of questions from those in attendance. I always love interacting with users and solving their problems. One of the last questions I got was Web sites I could recommend and then the user listed some of his favorites. There was one commonality between his favorites, they were sites that provided “free videos” on CorelDRAW. I won’t name the sites as I have nothing at all nice to say about them. It was clear this person would rather waste time finding poor answers than spending even a small amount of money for quality training. I give away a lot of free information in the blog and on the unleash.com Web site, but I can’t stay in business giving away everything for free. A few of the attendees came up afterwards and thanked me for the information they’d learned from my CorelDRAW Unleashed training so I was glad to hear some attendees understand the value I do my best to deliver.
