I’ve written often about both hard drives and SSD drives as they are the holders of our operating system, software and data. SSD drives cost a lot more and hold a lot less so they are best for storing just the operating system. Hard drives are slower, but they have a lot more space so they are good for data and software.
This makes things a little more complicated on a desktop system as you need to install two drives. It just isn’t possible on laptops that only have room for a single drive. That’s where the WD Black2 comes into play as it combines two drives in a single enclosure.
First things first, this drive is only currently supported in Windows as it requires a driver to be seen by the computer as two separate drives. Inside the enclosure you’ll get a 120 GB SSD drive and a 1 TB hard drive. Neither are as fast as standalone components, but together they provide a really nice option at a fair price (currently sells for $262 at Amazon). Especially for those who have a laptop (not an ultraportable as it is still too large), it gives you the best of both worlds. If you have a desktop and only want to buy/install one drive, this is also a great choice.
