Zoom In Tight With Canon PowerShot SX700 HS Digital Camera

October 15, 2014

Canon PowerShot SX700 HS Digital CameraMost of us probably carry a digital camera with us most everywhere in the form of a smartphone. The quality of pictures and videos from smartphones continually is improving, but they are too small to contain the optics for megazoom. Manufacturers of smartphones also leave out other features to try and keep prices reasonable.

On the high end are DSLR cameras. They certainly cost more and they don’t fit in your pocket. That’s where a camera like the Canon PowerShot SX700 HS comes into play. Calling it a pocket camera may be stretching things a little or maybe I should say it will stretch your pockets. If not in your pocket, you can easily carry it around your wrist on a strap. It is 4.4 x 1.4 x 2.6 inches and weighs 9.4 ounces.

The feature that really jumps out to me is the 30X optical zoom. I currently have a Canon pocket camera with 10X zoom that is pretty amazing. For those who are curious how that translates to a DSLR lens, it would range from 25-750mm! I also notice the pop-up flash on this camera has a lot more light output than what is in my current camera. More cool features are the built-in WiFi and NFC connectivity so you can connect to computers and phones to transfer photos and even to share photos online.

You can also control the camera from your phone. Put the camera on a tripod and trigger it from your phone! This functionality can take selfies and group shots to a whole new level.

If you want stills, it shoots 16.1 megapixel images. Videos can be shot up to 1080p at up to 60 frames per second. It is currently priced at $299 at Amazon which isn’t bad for everything this little camera can do!
