It was almost eighteen months ago that we switched our office phones from landlines provided by Centurylink to VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) supplied by RingCentral. I detailed this decision and how it dropped our costs by 75% in Upgrade Your Phone Service and Save Money With RingCentral. In that post, I only discussed how it replaced our regular phone service and the cost savings. In this post I’m going to discuss all the other benefits.
Let’s continue the discussion with the additional phone functions that are available. A desktop app is available that allows you to make calls, send texts and check voice mail through the computer. There is also an app for smartphones and tablets with the same functionality. Imagine that you are far away from your home or office and you can still make and receive calls at the home/office number through your smartphone or tablet. You can even do this in other countries. All you need is an Internet (typically WiFi) connection.
Last summer I took a vacation outside of the United States and just brought the office phones with me. Since I knew I wouldn’t have service on my smartphone, I forwarded that number to my home number and got all my calls on my smartphone using the RingCentral app.
One of my favorite RingCentral features is the ability to share my computer screen and/or see the computer screen of others. This is something I often use in conjunction with the Hire the Geek service so that I can show someone how to complete a task or I can observe what they are doing so I can provide a better method. This functionality is available from other services, but having it included with my phone service at no extra cost is great for me (and those who hire me).
Overall, I’ve been thrilled that the decision was made to switch to RingCentral. We’ve already saved a lot of money plus we have a lot more features than we had in the past.
