The last week has been crazy. When I came into the office last Monday, I had the idea to move the Graphics Unleashed Blog. That day, the new domain name was purchased. Two days later, all of the content (more than 4000 pages) had been migrated to the new site. It was then that the editing began.
It will be a long time before all of the older posts can be edited to best take advantage of the new format, but I’ve gotten posts from the last few months completed. One thing you’ll notice is a big graphic above most posts. The older posts won’t look as good simply because the graphics we created in the past weren’t the ideal resolution for the new format. Going forward, we’ll design the graphics at the correct size.
Above is a screenshot of the new home page. As usual, a list of posts will be found here in order of the date they were published. If you enjoy posts in a specific category more than others, there are menus at the top of the page showing the most recent posts from popular categories. You’ll even see that most of the posts listed have a thumbnail graphic. I’m really excited about the look of these new menus.
On the right sidebar, there is a prominent search box. Please use it to find posts on a specific topic. If you’d prefer a language besides English, you can translate into any language supported by Google Translate. It may not be a perfect translation, but I find it does a pretty good job.
You’ll also find a grid with our most popular social media networks. We encourage you to follow on the platforms of your choice. Farther down is a box that provides four tabs to find posts you’ll enjoy: Recent, Popular, Comments and Tags. In the footer of the site are links to other Unleashed sites and posts on my favorite products.
When you go to a post page, you’ll see the post itself. Below the post are buttons making it easy to share the post on your favorite social media network. You’ll also find a list of tags assigned to that post. If you click on any of the tags, you’ll see a list of other posts with the same tag.
There is also a bio for the author of the post, in almost all cases it is my bio. If you are interested in writing a guest post, let me know and we can discuss your idea. There are also links to the previous post and the next post (if you aren’t on the most recent one). Below that are three related posts.
In the past, I’ve talked about various issues we’ve had with the commenting system on our previous site. The new commenting system gives you three options. You can click the icon to comment on your choice of platform. Using Facebook comments is the default choice and it should pick up your personal Facebook account automatically. If not, you’ll have the option to log in. Next is Google Plus and it should again pick up your account or give you the option to log in. Last are WordPress comments. This will require you to create an account on our site. Note that all older comments (thousands of them) were migrated to the new site as WordPress comments.
Those of you who subscribe by e-mail to either the daily posts or the weekly newsletter will still get the e-mails on the schedule you’ve selected. There will be a few changes to the e-mails, but they should be mostly the same. I hope you enjoy the new site and much as I do and I’ll do my best to keep writing content to educate and entertain you.
