Loyal readers are no doubt aware that we’ve created a number of new Web sites over the past year and that we’ve been transitioning content from the unleash.com domain to these new domains. Today I wanted to talk about how we are transitioning the traffic and page rank from Google from the old to the new sites.
The site with the most content is the Graphics Unleashed Blog. For ten years, it was hosted on the Blogger platform. Back in April, we transitioned all of the old posts to the dedicated https://graphics-unleashed.com domain and all posts after that date are only on the new site. Unfortunately this didn’t automatically move traffic from the old pages to the new ones. That’s where the Blogger 301 Redirect add-on for WordPress comes into play.
It took only a few minutes to install the add-on and have all of the pages hosted on Blogger to automatically be redirected to the new site. While it is still too early to see how this comes into play with Google, there is no doubt the search rankings will transition in the near future. All of the posts from Jeff Harrison’s Daily Diversion have also been migrated into the Graphics Unleashed Blog. You’ll see Jeff listed as the author on each of his posts.
A few weeks ago, we added redirects from some pages at unleash.com to the CorelDRAW Unleashed site and it has led to a 1000% traffic increase on the CorelDRAW Unleashed site. A similar increase also occurred on the Vehicle Templates Unleashed site from the redirects we added.
The increases on Seamless Textures Unleashed, Web Design Solutions Unleashed and Loreto Bay Home Rental are not as large, but there is still a big traffic spike right after adding the redirects. This is very good news as we will not lose the Google rankings built up over the years as we break out the content into a series of smaller sites dedicated to a single type of content or product.
