February 28, 2016

I love to read and I certainly enjoy it even more when it is free. There is no way I can read all the free Kindle books available, but I can certainly pass them along to loyal readers. There is no catch to these free books as I explained in How to Read Kindle Books and Why are Kindle Books Free. Make sure to check out previous posts with free titles.

I’ve embedded each of today’s free offerings in a new way. If you click on either the cover graphic or the Preview button, you can read some of the book right in this window to help decide if you want to get a copy. All of the books listed below were free when this post was published, but it is possible that the offer will expire before you read the post. I’m sorry if you missed out on the free offer, but please understand it is out of my control. The description of each book comes directly from Amazon.

Murder Under Construction

Jo Ravens is thirty-two, divorced, and stuck in a rut. She wants two things in life – a new career as a private investigator and to lose the sixty pounds she packed on after her divorce.

When she crashes her nephew’s bike in a construction site, she lands on a girl with a large knife in her chest. Jo enlists her sister Pepper and journalist friend Jackie to help solve the girl’s murder. Things become creepy for Jo when the girl appears to her in dreams and offers unusual clues to her death.

Murder Under Construction is a humorous mystery with Jo’s family adding to the antics of the three women. Mama caterwauls, Jackie’s two children offer sleuthing assistance, and her brother Hank laughs at all of them from the sidelines.

Hollywood Detective

Jake Hancock, probably Hollywood’s finest private investigator, has a weak spot for easy women and strong drinks. With movie star looks and everything a late-thirties male could want, including a luxurious apartment on Hollywood Boulevard, Hancock should be content. But he isn’t—or at least his shrink doesn’t think so.

Beautiful but sassy Megan Books, the star of a toothpaste commercial, has just learned some earth-shattering information: Her dad isn’t her biological father. Coming highly recommended—or at least recommended—Megan hires Jake Hancock to find out who’s the man who has been posing as her father all these years. If there’s one private detective who can learn the truth, it’s probably Jake Hancock.

Despite having not worked undercover for a while, Hancock poses as Megan’s much-older boyfriend for a family weekend at her childhood home in Rodeo, Texas. From within their home, he will learn their secrets.and hopefully get laid in the process.

But Megan’s parents are onto Hancock the moment he steps through the front door. On top of not being able to convincingly pull off his guise as a mature Harvard medical student, Hancock’s personal issues threaten to spill over into his professional life. His estranged wife insists on discussing divorce proceedings this very weekend, and his sister, who’s battling a crippling illness, needs him to “be there for her.” All of which combine to make this gig a juggling act for which Hancock isn’t prepared.

A day in the investigation turns weird. Why doesn’t either of Megan’s parents appear in any of her childhood photos before she was three? And why does Megan identify with two completely different parents during an age-regression hypnotherapy session? Hancock suspects that this isn’t simply a case of Megan’s father being her stepfather. It’s much more bizarre than that. So bizarre it creates an ethical dilemma for Hancock:

As a private investigator, Hancock is contractually obligated to uncover the truth. But at what cost to his client, Megan?

Finding out the truth is the hard part. Knowing what to do with it is even harder.

The Sword and The Seven Stones

As the old man’s hands pulled back the worn leather, Alman looked at what lay within. He reached out and touched the finest of steel. Embedded in the hilt, a perfect diamond. Upon accepting the sword, Alman had to go where no one ever dare go before. He needs to pass mountains where some never return from. Will the fires keep him safe along the way and keep whatever is lurking in the shadows at bay? Will he live to save the others? His father’s Kingdom depended on him. What magic were they dealing with?
Nicholis the king of Maramar regretted the words as soon as they left his lips. He knew his only son could be rebellious and now he knew that he would have to send men to keep him safe. The storm stayed steady and as the four of them walked into his great hall, he took one look at Madeline, the village girl he has taken in and knows who she would be perfect for.

End of Eternity

Six months pregnant and devastated, Carmen Winters is forced to pick up the pieces of her shattered life. Before she can even begin to grieve, she finds herself being pursued by Bradford West, her late husband’s best friend. Brad’s strange behavior puzzles Carmen, but she is too distraught and overwhelmed to push him away.

As she grows obsessed with understanding the madness that took her husband, Carmen finds her own mind unraveling dangerously to the brink of insanity. She is convinced that her sister Helen was the last person to see her husband alive, and might have some information about his death.

When a kind doctor named Owen takes an interest in Carmen’s well-being, she finds herself slowly beginning to recover. His infectious sense of humor is able to distract her from her misery, and she finds herself leaning on her new friend for support.

But Carmen doesn’t know that there are darker events to unfold that could destroy what little sanity she has left…
