Huawei Smartwatch Stainless Steel with Black Leather Strap

August 3, 2016

It has been a few years since I last wore a watch. These days I rely upon my smartphone to give me the current time. During my recent time in Mexico, I wore a wristband for entry into the Bay of Loreto National Marine Park. A few times I caught myself looking at the wristband for the current time. It was then I knew that I missed wearing a watch. That got me to looking at available smartwatches and I found the Huawei watch shown below to be very interesting.

huawei-watch-fitnessAs you can see from the photo, it looks very much like a traditional watch in its default mode. This is just one of the watch faces supplied so you can certainly switch to a different face if you want a different look. You can also swap bands if the leather band isn’t your style.

It will interface with iOS 8.2, Android 4.3 or later versions. This way you aren’t locked into a smartwatch that only works with one specific flavor of phone. At this point, it does work far better with Android devices.

Fitness trackers are extremely popular these days as they allow you to make sure you are getting in your daily dose of exercise. This watch also doubles as a fitness tracker so that you don’t have to wear both devices on your wrist. By day it is an attractive wristwatch but it turns in to a fitness tracker when you need it. Of course that is just one of the many “smart” features it supports.

huawei-watch-messageIf you want to get notifications for the latest messages, you’ll get a screen similar to the one shown at right. I know that would come in handy for me so that I wouldn’t have to pull my phone out of my pocket just to see why it made it noise.

If you look at the watch on Amazon, you’ll see there are a number of variations of face/band available and each has a different price point. The variation I featured in these photos is currently one of the lowest price points. From a feature standpoint, all of the watches are identical.

While I’m very interested in wearing a watch again, I haven’t made the final decision if I’m ready to get a smartwatch. But should I decide to get one, this Huawei watch would be my choice.
