Loyal readers know that I am a huge fan of the GoodSync utility. I purchased a copy and used it regularly before I ever said anything about it. It is still used nightly to make sure I have a full backup of my data. Yes, I have affiliate links below that earn a small commission. But I am writing this as a happy customer!
First, there are probably too many of you who have nothing in place to back up your data. Some may have a plan that involves backing up once a year, or every few months. But why not back up every night? It takes a few minutes to set it up and then you don’t have to do anything! OK, you should check every now and then to make sure it is still working.
With GoodSync, you start by analyzing the drive (or folders) you wish to back up.
After it has been analyzed, you tell it to Sync.
The dialogs above are showing the manual method and you do have to do it manually the first time. Depending on the amount of data, it can take quite a while to sync it to your backup location. Once the first one is done, you can schedule to run at what time and date you wish. Mine is set to run at 2am each night. Since it only has to sync the new files each night, it typically runs fairly fast. There is only so much data I can change in a single day!
Some of the new features involve being able to sync to a cloud drive such as OneDrive Office 365 and Amazon Cloud Drive. Data is encrypted during the process and the latest version runs even faster. If you’ve never tried it, it is worth downloading and trying. If you are already a user of an earlier version, consider upgrading. I personally have not upgraded yet only because the new version was just released. It is something I’ll get done in the next few days so that I can continue to rest easy at night with my data safely backed up.
