I can’t believe it was two years ago that I told you about an essay entitled 1,000 True Fans. If you don’t remember the story, I highly recommend you read it again. The following day I told you the story about how a local Phoenix band, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, had succeeded using the 1,000 True Fans formula. Again, I recommend you give that one a read as well. While you might not think the story of a band applies to you, the idea is the same for anyone creating content in the new age of the Internet.
Recently another band has come on to the music scene and they fit the 1,000 True Fans formula perfectly. In fact, their lead singer Jess Harnell did a great interview describing how the band and their music came into being. They mix the background music of a heavy metal song with the melody and lyrics of 80s pop songs. On the page with the interview, you can watch a music video of their most popular song Don’t Stop the Sandman which is a mix of Metallica’s Enter Sandman and Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’.
Part of the Rock Sugar Band formula is to sell their music directly from their Web site. If you like the music, I encourage you to order a CD for yourself. With shipping it is around $22. I was happy to order a copy for myself to help support a unique band with a great entrepreneurial plan.
