Are You Asked To Design For Free?

September 2, 2010

How many times have you been asked to design something for free? There can be numerous reasons. Maybe you are doing it for a charitable organization so it could be considered a donation. Yet there are other times that it is a so-called friend or even a client who promises future work if you do this one thing for me. Whether you choose to do it or not is certainly your own decision.

One designer decided to share some of his stories on the Web about people who had asked for free design. I’ll warn you in advance that the exchanges he shares get a bit salty. As long as you can overlook a few of the words used, I think you’ll find the stories quite amusing. While the designer acts like a total jerk to those asking for the freebies, the “clients” are deserving of such treatment. I’ll share links to two stories. There are many more on the Web site if you want to read a few more.

Missy the cat was the funniest thing I’ve seen in months. Laughed so hard I cried. Thanks so much for sharing!

I can totally totally relate to those posts! But sometimes it’s faster just to do the project requested than to come up with such articulated replies!
