Back in May I told you about a catalog full of CorelDRAW mistakes. The good news is that the designer who was going to update the catalog had taken our CorelDRAW Unleashed Training Boot Camp.Armed with this new knowledge, the catalog has undergone a massive overhaul. Yesterday I saw a preview of the updated version and progress was definitely being made. While flipping through the pages, I did find some pages that didn’t seem to be optimized.
After asking about those pages, the designer explained the desire to make text wrap around graphics. Since the designer wasn’t sure how to do it, a roundabout method was used and the result was a bitmap with the text wrapped around a photo. After I commented, the designer found the answer in my CorelDRAW X5 Unleashed Multimedia Training.
When you first try to wrap text, it may be confusing because there is no setting to tell the text to wrap around graphics. Instead, you tell the graphic to repel the text. When a graphic is selected, the Wrap Paragraph Text button will appear on the Property Bar. Click the icon to see the options available. If you have a group of objects, be careful as it will treat each object in the group separately and the wrapping can be both very slow and hard to predict. It is often better to draw a quick shape for wrapping and make the outline invisible. Once you’ve turned on wrapping for that shape, group it with the group of objects around which you want the text to wrap. Bitmaps are always treated as a rectangle so you may have to manually draw an irregular outline around a bitmap for wrapping. Again, group it with the bitmap after turning on the wrapping.
Once you figure out how wrapping works, it is pretty easy to put it to use in your project. That way you’ll avoid creating your own project full of mistakes. When you have a question about how to create something in CorelDRAW, don’t hesitate to post a question on the wall of our Facebook page.
You just gave me a perfect solution. I had been trying to wrap a text around a bitmap. Now i know why it didn’t work
