RAVPower Filehub Works as Travel Router and Much More

FileHub AC750 Wireless Travel Router

Over the years there have been several gadgets I’ve purchased that become very important tools in my travel arsenal. Heck, some of them are even useful when I’m not traveling. Two and a half years ago I wrote RavPower FileHub Makes Geek Travel Easier and today I want to follow up on that post.

Yes, I purchased the RAVPower Filehub back then and my original plan was to use it on some upcoming travel. It was definitely something worth having on the trip, but it has often been used since then as a way to “steal” Internet from a nearby source. Note that I wasn’t truly “stealing” as I’ve always had the permission to connect to the networks. For me it was simply giving me a better WiFi signal in a place I might not normally have it.

My devices (phone, tablet, laptop) have the login information saved for the RAVPower Filehub. So I simply connect the Filehub to the network I want to use and all my devices are connected. Prior to getting fiber optic Internet, this even allowed me to share a neighbor’s connection should mine go down.

While I love the product and I wanted to tell folks about it, the company stopped selling products on Amazon. There is a newer version of it available on the manufacturer’s Web site, the FileHub New Version AC750 Wireless Travel Router. There isn’t an awesome sale as there was the last time I wrote about it, but there are likely ways to save a few bucks on it.

While for me it is mainly a travel router, it does have a lot more features. Plug a hard drive into the included USB port and you can access that drive from up to five devices. If that shared drive has media on it, you can even stream that media to a television by connecting its WiFi to the Filehub.

All of this in a device not much bigger than a deck of cards. It definitely goes in my travel bag wherever I go. If you need a way to extend WiFi coverage at home or on the road, this is something you should seriously consider.
