Don’t Forward Hoax Facebook Messages!

January 14, 2019

Just a few days ago I wrote Don’t Fall for Facebook Hoaxes and threw some of my friends under the bus for being gullible enough to fall for the hoaxes. It only took two days until one of them fell for another one!

Below is the text of the message they sent me via Facebook Messenger:

Hi….I actually got another friend request from you which I ignored so you may want to check your account. Hold your finger on the message until the forward button appears…then hit forward and all the people you want to forward too….PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT A NEW friendship FROM ME AT THIS TIME.

Now let’s go through this message carefully. Do you see anything personal in the message? No, it is as generic as it gets. The most important part is “Hold your finger on the message until the forward button appears…then hit forward and all the people you want to forward too”. Why are they encouraging me to forward it to others? If it is MY account that got hacked, why do I need to tell others I’ve gotten requests from them?

These messages are just spam. NEVER forward them! If you truly do get a duplicate friend request from someone, write them a personal message. Include their name. Maybe even link to the fake profile. Most importantly, REPORT the fake profile directly to Facebook!

If you get a message like this, do NOT post on your wall that you’ve been hacked. You haven’t. You’ve just fallen for a hoax. C’mon people, think a bit before you post/forward stuff!
