Getting the Missing Headphone Jack Back on New Phones

Getting the Missing Headphone Jack Back on New Phones
August 24, 2022

I last bought a new phone in 2017. That phone was replaced via warranty in 2019 with a slightly newer model. While my current phone has served me well, I resisted a newer phone because it would mean not having a headphone jack. I understand why the jacks were removed (bigger batteries), but the headphone jack is extremely important to me. Today I’m going to look at an adapter that can allow me to have a new phone and a headphone jack. I’ll provide links to order products at Amazon that earn me a few pennies. Nothing else was provided to me for writing this.

Before I talk about the adapter I’ve found, I want to explain why the headphone jack is so important to me. The obvious reason is that I have wired headphones that I want to use with my phone. Absolutely that is part of the reason. But I also have various external microphones I use when recording videos that plug into that same headphone jack.

Now on to the adapter. I’m a die-hard Android user and love the Samsung phones I’ve had so I’ll be looking at their latest when I go shopping. They have only the USB-C jack and so the USB C to 3.5mm Headphone and Charger Adapter is perfect for my needs. The graphic below lists many of the ways it can be used.

Admittedly I’m not crazy about the need to carry a dongle around with me everywhere, but at least I’ll still have the ability to use the headphone jack and charge my phone at the same time.

That solves my needs, but I know many loyal readers are iPhone fans. Don’t worry, there are adapters for Apple’s lightning plug as well. For you, check out the Apple MFi Certified Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter pictured below.

If you want to get the headphone jack returned to your phone, one of these two adapters is likely the answer for you. Check them out and get an adapter on order!
