In the world of college basketball, the die-hard fans can’t wait for the first official day of practice to begin. This year the rules changed and the more celebrated day is the “Midnight Madness” show put on by teams and schools. While they once took place at midnight, most of them are now evening affairs. Why is this important? Well “Late Night in the Phog” is the name of the big event for the Kansas Jayhawks and it takes place tomorrow night (October 4, 2013) at historic Allen Fieldhouse.
Guess where the Geek is today? That’s right, historic Allen Fieldhouse. I was a student many years ago and have seen more than 100 games in this mecca for college basketball fans. Even if you aren’t a fan of college athletics, there is a lot of cool stuff in the building. Those of you in the awards business will see all kinds of different awards in the trophy cases and hanging from the rafters. Walls are covered with giant murals printed on wide-format printers. And there is a whole staff dedicated to producing the video shown on the scoreboard. So even in the building where Wilt Chamberlin once starred (and still holds records), there is a lot of modern technology. Check out the latest episode and chant along with Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
