I’m a fairly light user of action cameras and my specific usage is almost always in and under water. Given my usage, I can’t justify the cost of a GoPro. Thus I prefer a brand that delivers very similar functionality at a great price. Several years back I bought a camera made by AKASO and it has met my needs well. Today, I’ll cover a newer model that to me is a great bargain. I’m even tempted to upgrade myself.

The AKASO EK7000 Pro 4K Action Camera is not the latest or the greatest camera in their lineup. For those who want more (at a higher cost), look to the AKASO Brave 7 LE 4K30FPS 20MP WiFi Action Camera. Again, my needs are light so I’m focused on getting features I want at a great price.

First and foremost I like shooting photos either in or underwater so getting a waterproof case allowing me to scuba dive to 100 feet is important and the AkASO EK7000 delivers. In fact, I recently ordered a new floating handle for my forays into the water. This particular model is rated as deep as 131 feet and I know that is far deeper than I’ll go. Also of interest is a Diving Mode that compensates for the lack of red light in underwater scenes. Having this can save a lot of time editing photos afterwards.

While my usage involves water, the camera works well above water too. It has image stabilization so your videos aren’t as shaky (blurry). If you want to control it remotely, there is a wireless remove control you can wear on your wrist. Wi-Fi allows you to connect to a phone app to view or control the camera. They even claim it can work as a dash cam. A variety of accessories are included in the kit so you do get a lot for your money. Should you need a good action camera at a great price, look no further than the AKASO EK7000!
