Anker Mars II Portable Data and Video Projector

June 27, 2018

Over the years I’ve purchased quite a few data projectors to use while teaching. All of them could also be used for video and I did use them to watch a big game on a giant screen. Resolutions continued to go higher and the projectors have gotten smaller and less expensive. Today I’m going to tell you about a fairly small one that projects a very big bang for the buck. Yes, I’ll earn a small amount if you buy using the links provide. No, I didn’t get a free one or any other benefit.

Project data with Anker Mars IIOfficially the name is Nebula by Anker Mars II and it features a 720p picture and even has 10 watt speakers. Internally, it is an Android 7.1-based computer. So it can run the same streaming apps as recent model Android phones and tablets. It also contains HDMI and USB ports to project content from other data or video sources. For example, you could connect a DVD player, computer or video game system. It is small enough (4 pounds) that you can easily take it to a meeting to project your computer screen for your clients. Heck, it even runs four hours on a battery.

Streaming Video on Anker Mars II projectorEven if you buy it for “serious” use, there is no reason you can’t enjoy watching video on a big screen. It can project an image up to 150 inches diagonally and auto-focuses to give you a sharp picture. The lamp is rated at 300 lumens. So it won’t be great in a bright room, but will look great if you have low lighting. One thing I really like is that the lamp is rated at 30,000 hours so it won’t need to be replaced often, if at all.

Remember it is Android-based so any streaming app available on Android can be used to pull in video to project. That means all of the big streaming providers and plenty of smaller ones. Of course verify that your favorite app is available on Android before buying.

I’m not in the market for a projector today as I have a big one. But that may soon change and I’ll be giving this a serious look as it delivers a lot for the price.
