GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2080 Gaming Graphics Card Brings Serious Speed

February 13, 2019

For those working in the world of graphics, pushing pixels around on screen and pushing more of them is important. Obviously the faster you can push them, the better. As you see the name of products, you’ll often see “Gaming” as part of the name and this shouldn’t scare away non-gamers. It typically gets put on many high-end products as the gamers are those who push the boundaries more than the average computer user. Graphics gurus have very similar needs to gamers and so choosing “gaming” products is a smart choice. I do earn a small commission if the purchase products using the links provided, but I sadly haven’t gotten one of these cards for free so I’d write about it.

A few months ago the folks at NVidia announced the latest and greatest technology in consumer video cards and we’re just now seeing cards hitting the market. Before you even ask, they are not cheap! I tried to find one of the most powerful cards while also trying to be on the lower end of the price scale. It’s still expensive.

I went with the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 2080 Gaming OC 8GB Graphic Card. Yes, you’ll see that gaming name in there as it has outstanding support for gaming. the OC in the name tells you that the folks at Gigabyte have overclocked the card for you. Yes, this is pushing it slightly beyond the manufacturer’s spec. It also means Gigabyte will warranty the faster speed. Keep in mind that it will also run a little hotter because of that speed and you will want to compensate using your computer’s cooling system.

RTX indicates real-time ray tracing in games. This is still a technology in its infancy and there aren’t really many games that can even take advantage at this point. For working with vector graphics, image editing and even video work; ray tracing doesn’t matter. All of the other power on this card will help you get the fastest speeds for those workflows.

You’ll have to decide if the speed is worth the expense. If it is, this would be a great card to choose.

Updates to Amazon Storefront

Last week I told you that we had started to build out an Amazon storefront in Graphics Unleashed Amazon Storefront Shares Favorite Products. Since that posted, a lot more products have been added to the existing lists and a few new lists have been added. This will be an ongoing process to add new favorites and remove others that are no longer available or that have been surpassed by other products.
