WiFi in the past has been extremely confusion with a mish-mash of letters and numbers. Thankfully the powers that be have simplified the system with a version number. So what was once known as 802.11ax is now know as WiFi 6 and it brings stronger and faster connections. Today I’m going to highlight two mesh systems from Asus that deliver WiFi 6. Yes, I’ll link to Amazon and I earn a small commission if you buy something. No, I haven’t gotten any freebies for writing this.
Well start with the Asus RT-AX92U AX6100 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Router with 802.11Ax system. One of the great features of this mesh system is a dedicated wireless backhaul between the two units. This makes sure that they both have the ability to deliver the fastest possible connection to your devices throughout your home or business.
One thing I really like is that each of the units have 2 USB ports and 4 Gigabit LAN ports. That means you can have a wired connection from each of the units in addition to wireless connections. There are also four antennae that stick up from each unit. Some will think these units look great and others would prefer something more subtle. Of the two systems I’m featuring, this one is the least expensive and in some ways offers more features. Based on CNet tests, it also provides better performance especially at longer distances.
For those who wanting a system that blends in a bit more with their decor, you may want to investigate the ASUS ZenWiFi AX Whole-Home Tri-Band Mesh WiFi 6 System. It does cost more though it does look more elegant.
There are only 3 Gigabit LAN ports and 1 USB port on each of the units. The antennae are internal so they don’t stick up. Does this affect performance? It could be why the performance of this system isn’t as good at longer distances.
If I were going to purchase one of these systems today, I’d go with the Asus RT-AX92U AX6100 Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Router with 802.11Ax as it both costs less and delivers better performance. I don’t mind the look of the units as my main concern is with getting a great connection to all of my devices.
