In last week’s post, Capture Better Sounds With beyerdynamic FOX Microphone, I told you about a really good microphone. Sometimes you need a few accessories to go with your microphone so that you can get the best recordings. I’ll tell you about two of those today. Yes, I’ll supply some Amazon links that pay me a tiny commission if you shop with them. No, I didn’t get anything for free.
No matter how good the microphone, it has to be properly positioned to capture the best recording. There are a wide variety of microphone stands available, but one of the most useful tools may be the InnoGear Microphone Arm. Clamp it on your desk or other stationary object and adjust the arm until your microphone is in the perfect position.
The stand can rotate and adjust in a wide variety of ways. Included is a holder for a handheld microphone and the screw is a standard size that should allow you to attach most any other microphone. It is designed to handle a weight of up to 1.5 kg (that’s about 3.3 pounds). Best of all, it won’t break the bank and can easily be moved out of the way when not in use!
Once you get the microphone in place, you have to protect it against some of the noises you might make. When you make the S sound, it can lead to hissing. The B and P sounds can lead to a pop. That’s why you’ll want to get the Studio Microphone Mic Wind Screen Pop Filter.
It contains a clamp that will easily attach to most any microphone stand. Then using the gooseneck, you can position it between the microphone and your mouth. Not only does it filter out the bad sounds, it can also keep saliva off of the microphone. These is a dual-layer of mesh with an air gap between them.
Combine the microphone arm and the pop filter with a great microphone and you’ll be all set to record content in your own home/office studio!
