It sure seems like almost any conversation with someone in a different location involves talking about the weather. While that small talk may not be that important, it can be important to know what is going on in your location. Is it raining? Snowing? Windy? Hot? Cold? While you can rely on information from a nearby weather station, today we’re going to talk about getting your own weather station so you know exactly what is going on in your location. Today we’ll check out a comprehensive solution and I’ll include a link to purchase it from Amazon. I do receive a small commission if you use my links, but I’ve not received anything else for this write-up.

I’ve looked through quite a few options and my choice is the Sainlogic WiFi Weather Station as it combines the best features at a reasonable price. With most all weather stations, there are two main components. A device to measure the weather is setup outside and then a display indoors. You’ll see Sainlogic’s outdoor measuring station below.

One thing that has kept me from considering a weather station in the past is that the outdoor unit required electricity and that greatly complicated installation for me. The fact that this one has a small solar panel along with some backup batteries makes it far easier to install on my roof. Yes, I’ll have to climb up there every year or so to replace the batteries, but that is far easier than providing electricity there. In my case, I already have a pole on my roof from a previous Internet antenna. So the install will be very simple.

The display portion can be in a variety of locations indoors and it directly connects to the measuring station outdoors. In theory they can be as far as 100 meters apart, but realistically they need to be closer as the signal needs to penetrate the roof, walls and other obstructions. You’ll see details on the display below.

In addition to displaying all the information, the display connects to the Internet via WiFi. This allows it to upload your weather to services such as Weather Underground or Weathercloud. This is not required, but it gives you additional functionality if you desire. You can also use the Sainlogic app on your phone or tablet to get your exact weather data from wherever you happen to be.

This provides a very complete weather solution for those who want it. The install process of the measuring station and the various connections will take some time. But once setup, you’ll be able to know what’s happening outside your home whenever you desire.
