Building Custom Palettes Using CorelDRAW’s Blend Effect

April 30, 2015

Palettes and Hex ColorsI’m working on a new tutorial all about color and CorelDRAW. I’m not sure when it will be ready for release, but it won’t be much longer. One of my favorite tips is to create custom palettes for your projects.

This makes it easy to have color consistency without having a bunch of colors in a palettes that aren’t needed. As part of the tutorial, I’ll share tips for finding colors that work well together. When you have that list of colors, the next step is creating variations of the colors.

For the variations, I use the Blend effect in CorelDRAW (see featured image at the top of the post for an example). I’ll blend each of the colors to white and another copy to black. This gives me both lighter and darker shades from which to choose.

Once I’ve collected all the colors I want in my palettes, I also make a cheat sheet of the colors and their hex values. While I can build a custom palette in CorelDRAW, the cheat sheet is handy for using the colors in other applications. Most specifically, I use the hex codes in Web design.

I can’t wait to complete the tutorial so you’ll have all the details on getting great color from CorelDRAW and I’m making sure that this tip about custom palettes is crystal clear because it is such a powerful tool to add to your design arsenal.
