Comparison: the CorelDRAW Knife Tool vs. Trimming with Lines

From the public forums:

The knife tool in Corel is difficult to use.
I agree, it’s not the most intuitive thing ever… it should work like a slashing-type tool to divide shapes without much thought. A huge problem IMO is that it can’t slice groups of objects.
KuttyJoe:
Apparently, you need to start a cut directly on a node, and end on a node.
No… but you need to watch the knife icon change on an edge when left clicking then left click again at the other edge when icon changes again. Here’s another interesting tip almost no-one knows:

So, I’m no a big fan of the knife.

Instead, try trimming into shape with lines. That way, one can:
  • create very complex trimming lines in advance (the trimming line can be very curvy)
  • position the trimming line exactly where needed (for example to divide a shape into 2)
  • combine many separate lines into a single trimming tool.
