ROMCat and Working With Clipart From CorelDRAW X7

February 23, 2015

I recently got an e-mail from someone who is not a native English speaker who wondered if ROMCat would work with clipart from CorelDRAW X7. Absolutely!

The issue is that CorelDRAW X7 does not supply any clipart on the DVD and therefore there is no pre-built catalog supplied with CorelDRAW X7 artwork. We can’t build a catalog when there is no art available from which to create it.

Where many users fail to get the most from ROMCat is in building their own catalogs from artwork stored on your own system. If you’ve downloaded clipart for CorelDRAW X7, then you can build your own catalog. The process of creating a catalog is described on the ROMCat page.

I strongly suggest you add keywords to every file you create (File | Document Properties to get the dialog box). Then use ROMCat to catalog the files you have created. This will make it much easier to find them in the future. We also make sure to include keywords in the Clipart Unleashed artwork we provide. Find the artwork you want and expand your library knowing that you can easily search it with ROMCat (or Corel CONNECT).

Looking at the Corel website and it states that in Corel Graphics Suite, the clipart is included as in the past versions. I don’t have X7 so I can’t swear to it.

It depends on how to you define “included.” It is NOT on the DVD. The only way to get the clipart is to download each file individually. Since it is not supplied as a collection on a disc, there is no way for us to supply a pre-made catalog. ROMCat does have the ability to build a catalog from any CorelDRAW files stored on a user’s system, so users are more than welcome to build their own catalog if they choose to download the artwork “included” with CorelDRAW X7.

I am trying to build a catalog with RomCat for our own Corel X7 files. But even with the new update in RomCat, it won’t pickup the keywords in Corel X7 files, even though they are there. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a setting in Corel X7 that I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

We’ve not heard of anyone having issues. If you can provide 2-3 files that are NOT working, we’ll gladly investigate and see if this is something that needs to be corrected in ROMCat.
