Update on Font Killing Microsoft Update KB2753842

December 19, 2012

Hopefully by now you are well aware of Windows Update KB2753842 and the fonts it has left in its wake. For those who haven’t read about it yet, please visit Windows Update KB2753842 Will Make Some Fonts Stop Working and follow the links at the bottom of the post to even more details. I had been told this update had been pulled from Microsoft and now it seems it has just been made an optional update. I wanted to pass along a few links to other articles on this update.

While those two posts are mainly covering Microsoft PowerPoint, I want you to fully understand this font problem will be present in many applications. This includes software from Corel, Adobe, Serif, Xara, Quark and more. You can decide what is better for you, but I highly recommend you choose not to install this update and hide it so it will not be offered in the future. We are all hopeful Microsoft will release another update that patches the security hole while still allowing valid fonts to work.
