As I flipped through the TV listings for Thanksgiving night, I noticed a documentary about the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s Bad album. I wasn’t going to be around to watch it so I set the show to record.
Various people involved in the production of this landmark release gave me new insight into the music it contained. I’m sure many of you have heard the songs over and over as had I. So it was really refreshing to give it a new listen and hear sounds I hadn’t remembered.
Since many of you are artists, I bet there are things you have created that may not completely be revealed without digging deeper into your designs. Now I doubt you have created something as universally recognized as this album and I’m thrilled if you have.
So why this album and why does it mean something to me? I certainly remember hearing the music at the time. But more memorable was that I attended Michael Jackson’s first ever solo concert and it was the start of his Bad tour. Of course I didn’t realize that at the time, it just so happened to be in Kansas City. I also didn’t know that Sheryl Crow was one of his backup singers and they did a duet during the show. I’m sure that was the first time I heard her sing and didn’t realize it until a few years ago.
Now that this “old” music is fresh in my mind, I’m sure I’ll be listening to it more in the next few days. It really is great to revisit these classics and for a few days, I even feel a bit younger.
