32-Bit CorelDRAW X6 Best Choice for Most Users

January 22, 2013

Have you installed the 32-bit version of CorelDRAW X6? You should as it is most likely the best choice for you!

If you have been a loyal reader, you’ve probably read Is The 64-Bit Version of CorelDRAW X6 Right For You?. I encourage all of you to read it once again as it seems the message hasn’t been fully received.

I still hear from users regularly who are having problems with things “not working” in CorelDRAW X6 and every single time it is because they have installed the 64-bit version. What things may not work? I detailed them all in the post referenced earlier. In short they include scanning, plug-ins, macros and possibly more.

Are you stubborn and feel you must have the 64-bit version? Fine, install both the 32-bit and 64-bit. That is perfectly legal and it doesn’t cost you anything extra. Do me a favor and run the 32-bit version until you find something where you feel you need the “power of 64-bit”.

I seriously doubt you’ll see any difference in performance unless you are working with massive files. What you will find is that some of those things you find not working in the 64-bit working will still work just fine in the 32-bit version.

What is draft sight? I’ve not heard of it. I assume it is software so it depends on what formats are supported by draft sight.

Define massive… 64bit for machines that support it and have sufficient amount of RAM will be FAR BETTER and that’s something that can’t be change due to the nature of 64bit versus 32bit. Generally speaking on the other hand, if a program was optimized for 32bit architecture then I generally agree with U! What I disagree is to advice people return to the “past” instead of “advice” companies accept and support the future! Because we all know why 64bit is slowly adapted by industry because of the “extra” cost of programming-debuging-supporting. 64bit though is the future and we must “open” the door to it!

    Headache,

I am a firm believer that most users should have a 64-bit operating system as long as they can get all necessary drivers. You’ll find a post about it at http://graphics-unleashed.unleash.com/2012/02/migrate-your-operating-systems-to-64.html

The problem with CorelDRAW X6 is that the 64-bit version is unable to do some things that can be done in the 32-bit version. I documented these in detail at http://graphics-unleashed.unleash.com/2012/07/is-64-bit-version-of-coreldraw-x6-right.html . You’ll also find that post talks about file sizes that would be defined by me as “massive”.

If both versions could use all of the macros, plug-ins and had full scanning support; I would definitely be all for 64-bit. Unfortunately I am regularly receiving questions from users about features not working and it is always related to their use of the 64-bit version. This isn’t bug-related, just features that only work in 32-bit.
